Overview

The path of globalisation is constantly evolving, and Athena tries to follow it.

As we try to observe how new paradigms emerge from the phenomena that evolve within the gradual waning of globalisation, we have decided to create this blog in order to better interpret current developments in the global context with an immediate perspective. In doing so, we have sought to adopt a more direct language and approach while maintaining our characteristic multidisciplinary approach, seriousness and analytical rigour.

Hence, Athena’s “In Other Words” blog shall serve as a platform for critical studies encompassing a wide range of sub-disciplines in the fields of law, philosophy, history, social and political sciences, with a focus on post-globalisation transformations. Far too long has scholarly discourse been centred on seeking solutions within the narrowly defined boundaries of a bygone era of dictature de la pensée unique: we recognise that history has not “ended”, and welcome the changing world, for better or for worse. We therefore invite scholars, practitioners, and members of civil society to share how they construe the inception of new paradigms and contradictions in their respective fields.

Authors who wish to contribute should note that “In Other Words” is not a platform for journal articles. We publish two kinds of contributions: Pieces (max. 2500 words) and Briefs (max. 750 words). These must tackle a recent contradiction, issue, or event in the author’s field. In this connection, we recommend authors to reach out to us with a publication project before sending a draft if the subject matter requires a lengthier scrutiny, as we may consider publishing two or more posts on the same question. If lengthier scrutiny is not needed, we may ask the author to shorten their contribution.

Given the relative shortness of a blog post, we implore authors to emphasise the importance of the question they are addressing and their main argument (or opinion for briefs) in the initial passages of their contribution. This will allow our readers to get a glimpse of the subject as quickly as possible, thereby enhancing readership and engagement. In this light, the language of the contribution is not required to be as formal as that of a journal article; however, we will not tolerate ad hominem attacks or offensive language in any shape or form.
